About Beverly

Beverly Mintz began formal music training on piano as a preschooler at Teltschik Piano Studio in Houston, Texas. In third grade she added violin study with Joan Stanley of the Houston Symphony. As an adult, after singing in several choirs without formal training, she studied classical voice with Judith Carman and contemporary voice with Tom McKinney, both in Houston.

Beverly welcomes violin, viola, voice, piano and beginning cello students of all ages. Her violin and viola students have won places in TMEA All-Region and All-State Orchestras, concertmaster chairs in local youth orchestras, top scores in UIL Solo and Ensemble contests, and admission to some of Texas’ best college music programs.

Because she has both classical and contemporary vocal training, Beverly can help singers increase their range, improve their sound production, and perform almost any musical genre. With her extensive piano training, she can also teach piano students to play multiple styles of music.

Cello is the newest addition to her teaching skill set. Her cello students typically progress rapidly, mastering skills in the most widely used beginner orchestra book within 2-3 months.

As a performer, Beverly has been a soloist as well as a professional choir, orchestra, and chamber musician. She is currently a second violinist in Central Texas Philharmonic, a professional symphony based in Williamson County. She is available for event bookings both as a solo performer and with additional musicians as part of an ensemble.

Beverly has a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. She worked in other fields for 20 years following her college graduation, including healthcare and advertising, so she understands that not all students plan to pursue music as a career.

Although Beverly uses some elements of the Suzuki method in her teaching, her students begin to read from simple versions of sheet music at the very first lesson if possible. Music is marked to make it more “user friendly” while the student’s reading skills improve.

In her free time, Beverly enjoys hiking with her German shorthaired pointer Hannes, spending time with family and friends, geeking out on sudoku and crossword puzzles, reading, and traveling.
