Today I want to focus on a topic that almost always comes up with my new violin, viola and cello students. Before starting lessons, you obviously need to have an instrument. I am a strong believer in renting before buying. Even if you’re an adult, your interests and/or time commitments may change. Rentals are typically month to month, so you can return the instrument at any time. You won’t be stuck with an unused instrument in your closet. For younger students who are growing, renting allows you to exchange your instrument for a larger one each time you outgrow the current size. Typically 50% to 100% of all rental payments made are credited toward any later instrument purchase. If you do decide to skip renting and dive right into buying, please consult me for advice! Some instruments you find online are a terrific value, and others are nearly unplayable. I will be glad to answer any other questions you have, as well as help you determine the correct size to rent or buy.
